 Amazing Announcements from D23: The Ultimate Disney Event!

Welcome to my eleventh blog! And it will be a Disney overload at that. This past weekend, Friday August 9 through Sunday August 11, Disney held one of their best events. The 2024 event was the biggest it ever was before even bigger than the 2022 event which even that event was bigger than the previous events. This year’s event was held at two locations: Anaheim Convention Center & Honda Center. This year the Walt Disney Archives put on their biggest display with showcasing 32 cars that were used in various Disney movies. This year also coincides with D23: The Disney Fan Club’s 15th anniversary. For this event they partnered with Swarovski to make a Sorcerer Mickey’s Hat sculpture with 15,023 crystals. This year’s theme for D23 is magic hence the magical hat, 15,000 crystals for 15 years of D23, and 23 crystals for the year Walt Disney started the company (1923). 

On Friday August 9, Disney Entertainment announced future projects in television and film: 

Marvel’s Agatha All Along (Disney+, September 18, 2024); 

Moana 2 (theaters, November 27, 2024); 

Star Wars Skeleton Crew (Disney+, December 3, 2024); 

Pixar’s Win or Lose (Disney+, December 6, 2024); 

Disney’s Live-Action Mufasa: The Lion King (theaters, December 20, 2024); Disney’s Live Action Snow White (theaters, March 21, 2025); 

Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again (Disney+, March 2025); 

Pixar’s Elio (theaters, Summer 2025); 

Disney’s Live-Action Lilo & Stitch (theaters, Summer 2025); 

Tron: Ares (theaters, October 10, 2025); 

20th Century Studios Avatar: Fire And Ash (theaters, December 19, 2025); Pixar’s Dream Productions (Disney+, 2025); 

National Geographic’s David Blaine: Do Not Attempt (Disney+, 2025); Freakier Friday (theaters, 2025); 

Percy Jacking and the Olympians Season 2 (Disney+, 2025); 

Disney on Broadway’s Frozen (Disney+, 2025); 

Zootopia 2 (theaters, November 2025); 

Pixar’s Hoppers (theaters, Spring 2026);

On Saturday August 10, Disney Experiences announced future Disney Park projects: 

Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom additions (Disney Starlight Nighttime Parade Summer 2025, Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge 2025, Villains Land, Pixar’s Cars Area in Frontierland); EPCOT additions (Updated Test Track 2025, Spaceship Earth Lounge 2025); Disney’s Hollywood Studios additions (Monster’s Inc. Land, Mandalorian & Grogu added to Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run); & Animal Kingdom additions (Zootopia: Better Together show in Tree of Life Winter 2024, Indiana Jones Attraction, Encanto Attraction, Pueblo Esperanza Land) 

Disneyland Resort: Disneyland Park (Tiana’s Bayou Adventure November 15, 2024, Walt Disney - A Magical Life Audio-Animatronic 2025, Mandalorian & Grogu added to Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run); & Disney California Adventure additions (Avatar Pandora Attraction, Coco Attraction, Avengers Campus Double the Size Expansion); 

Disneyland Paris Resort: Disney Adventure World (Lion King Attraction)

Shanghai Disneyland Park addition (Spider-man Coaster)

Hong Kong Disneyland Park addition (Spider-man Attraction) 

Tokyo Disneyland Park addition (Reach for the Stars Nighttime Show, Sep 2024)

Disney Cruise Line: Disney Treasure Ship addition (The Tale of Moana Show December 2024); Disney Destiny Ship addition (Hercules Show 2025); & Disney Cruise Line fleet additions (4 new ships between 2027 and 2031)

On Sunday August 11, Disney Legends Ceremony was hosted by Ryan Seacrest (will premiere on Disney+ tonight 4pm central) and the 2024 Disney Legends are: John Williams (Music); Joe Rohde (Imagineering); Kelly Ripa (Television); Frank Oz (Film & Television); Mark Henn (Animation); Harrison Ford (Film); Steve Ditko (Publishing); Miley Cyrus (Television & Music); Jamie Lee Curtis (Film); James Cameron (Film); James L. Brooks (Television); Martha Blanding (Parks & Resorts); Angela Bassett (Film & Television); Colleen Atwood (Costume Design); & Noah Jorgensen (Super Fan, Investor, D23 Gold Member). Just kidding about the last Disney Legend award recipient but the descriptions are very true.

Happy Day After Disney 2026 Shareholder Meeting Day!! Welcome to my 30th blog! Yesterday was The Walt Disney Company Annual Shareholder Meeting. They transitioned to a new CEO, Josh D’Amaro. He comes from being the head of Disney Experiences. The meeting also marked the first company wide CCO with Dana Walden.  Before the business and shareholder questionnaire portions of the meeting. It started with James Gorman, Disney Board Chairman, welcoming Josh D’Amaro & Dana Walden to the C-Suite and thanking Bob Iger for his 20+ years as CEO. They also showed a Thank You, Bob! Video which was the best Thank You video I have ever seen. On behalf of Disney Shareholders and Disney super fans everywhere, Thank You, Bob for leading the best entertainment company in the world!!
