 Happy Birthday Grandma Wilson!

Welcome to my tenth blog! Today would have been my grandma’s 96th Birthday. With this blog I want to honor my grandma. I am sorry if and when this blog will bring up any tough emotions for you, my readers. She had Dementia for many years before her passing. I was 17 when she passed. I remember that day very well. I felt a sense of her being at peace up in heaven with grandpa and my little brother Dylan (See Blog #9).

I want to take this time to give awareness to better research and medical care for people with Dementia and other Alzheimer’s diseases. I have made a donation in memory of my grandma to Alzheimer’s Association. They use donations to help those who live with an Alzheimer’s disease. If you would like to donate please visit: https://www.alz.org/

Sometimes I imagine Grandma Wilson still around with me. Imagining her in her happiest. As well as imagining her Dementia free. For high school, I decided to go online with eAchieve Academy. During my four years, they expanded the online school to now offer K-12 curriculum. Going online for high school, was the best decision I have ever made (at least in my academic circles). With being online there was less coursework to complete than in a regular high school. With more freedom to work on my courses when and where I wanted to, I was able to go to my Grandma’s house which was in walking distance from my old house. I would make lunch for her and I. I would also help her with house work. This was a very precious time for me. I told her when I would get my driver’s license I would take her wherever she wanted to go. After a few years and a 2009 Toyota Corolla (Formerly grandma’s) later I did just that but not as long as I hoped because she passed away a year and a half later. I first gave the car the name, Cruella, for Corolla but after my grandma’s passing I wanted to honor her and renamed my car, Janice, for my grandma’s first name (See Blog #5 for my first mention).

There is one big connection to her in the world of Disney (See Blog #9 for my first family connection with Disney and get ready for more on the way). She was born in 1928, the same year Walt Disney released, Steamboat Willie, the first short introducing Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse to the world. Every time Disney celebrates Mickey and Minnie, I also celebrate my Grandma Janice Wilson.

It was an honor to write about my Grandma Janice Wilson. I cannot wait for the next blog. Until next time, keep your days open for more knowledge. Thank you to everyone who reads this blog.
